If you’ve installed ExpressVPN on your Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, or iOS device but you can’t find it, this guide will help you troubleshoot the issue. Follow the steps for your device below to locate the app and, if needed, reinstall it to regain access to the VPN services.

Find the missing app on Windows

To find the missing ExpressVPN app on Windows, check your installed apps:

  1. Open Settings from your start menu.
  2. Go to Apps > Installed Apps.
  3. Look for ExpressVPN.

If the app is not there

It means the app is not installed. You can install it through the Microsoft Store or from your ExpressVPN account, following these Windows setup instructions.

If the app is there

The app is installed on your device. To make it easier to locate and open, you can either:

Search for the app and pin it

  1. Click the Windows search bar (or press the Windows key) and type ExpressVPN. 
  2. Right-click it and select Pin to Start or Pin to taskbar.

Create a desktop shortcut

  1. Right-click on the ExpressVPN app.
  2. Select Send to > Desktop (Create shortcut).

Find the missing app on macOS

If the ExpressVPN app is missing from your macOS, you can try finding it with these steps:

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Select Applications.
  3. If ExpressVPN is installed, you should find it in the list of applications here (you can type ExpressVPN in the search tool in the top-right corner of your Finder window to confirm).

If the app is not there

It means the app is not installed. You can reinstall ExpressVPN following these Mac setup instructions.

If the app is there

The app is installed on your device. If you do not want to search for the app every time you need it, you can create an alias:

  1. In Finder > Applications, find the ExpressVPN app, and right-click it.
  2. Select Make Alias, then drag the alias to your Desktop or Dock for quick access.

Find the missing app on Linux

To see if ExpressVPN is installed on Linux:
1. Open your terminal.
2. Run this command:

which expressvpnctl

Alternatively, you can try this command to locate the app’s executable path:

whereis expressvpnctl

3. This command lets you see all installed apps:

apt list --installed

If the app is not there

You can reinstall ExpressVPN following these Linux setup instructions.

If the app is there

The app is installed on your device. To make it easier to locate and open:

Search for the app and pin it

  1. Open your applications menu or app launcher and search for ExpressVPN.
  2. If it appears and opens, right-click its icon and look for an option like Add to Favorites or Pin to Task Manager to add it to your launcher or taskbar for easier access.

Check the app’s launcher file

If the app is confirmed installed (via the terminal commands above) but does not appear in your applications menu:

  1. Check for an expressvpn .desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications or /usr/share/applications.
  2. If it’s missing or was accidentally removed, restoring it (or reinstalling the app) should bring the launcher entry back.

Find the missing app on Android and iOS

To find ExpressVPN on Android or iOS, go to Settings > Apps. If the app is installed, it will show up on this list.

If the app is not there

You will need to reinstall the app from the Play Store on Android or the Apple Store on iOS devices. For detailed installation instructions, follow our setup guides for Android and iOS. Note that if you purchased your subscription within the app before it went missing, you will be able to restore your purchase after redownloading the app.

If the app is there

The app is installed. To add it to your home screen:

  1. Search for the app:
    • Android: Swipe up on your home screen to open your app drawer and search for ExpressVPN. If you cannot find the app this way, go to Settings > Apps, look for a Hidden apps option, and remove it from the list if it is there.
    • iOS: Swipe left past your last home screen page to open the App Library, then type ExpressVPN in the top search bar.
  2. Once found, press and hold the app icon, then select Add to Home screen.
